From the Kitchen is a dive into the history and forgotten charm of community cookbooks. Once the go-to fundraising device of church groups and local organizations, J.B. looks at community cookbooks as an overlooked aspect of self-publishing history, as well as a space where personal attachments, friendships, and rivalries would sometimes play out in the margins.
Focusing on cookbooks from J.B.’s hometown of Antonia, Missouri and its surrounding areas, this is also a personal journey through place, community, and the foods that define us.
This is the third in J.B.’s ongoing series of zines looking at odd, forgotten corners of rural Missouri history. All are fantastic.
