In Disembowel Me: An IBS Zine, Candace Jane Opper tells a digestive story that’s all-too-common in this modern age. Dismissive gastroenterologists, weird specialized diets, overpriced supplements and treatments, then repeat. Despite its subject matter, the zine is also quite funny and offers new angles for looking at the confusing guts of ourselves and/or loved ones.  

For those of us who have been through this, she also perfectly captures the experience many of us have had with an IBS diagnosis: “There is possibly no bigger fuck-you than a doctor telling you that you have IBS," she writes. “As a diagnosis, it’s basically a dead-end, the juncture at which your gastroenterologist shrugs and sends you on your way.”
